Update from speech and language pathologist and otorhinolaryngologist
Telepractice (telemedicine) can alleviate the effects of distance on access to
care by using the application of telecommunications technology to the delivery
of speech and language services at a distance, linking the clinician to the
client/patient for assessment, intervention, and/or consultation. In the study
“Parent Led Articulation Therapy for Children with Cleft Palate Speech Disorders
(PLAT)” (Sweeney et al. 2020), telepractice was used to monitor the children’s
speech progress and support parents in the delivery of home-based therapy. This
approach might be currently beneficial in the case of distance or poor access to
speech specialist. This presentation will report the study results and the
implementation of this research into clinical practice. Some evidence for use of
telepractice and insights from the PLAT study will be presented and discussed.
Update obstructive sleep apnea and implantable hearing aid in patients with
cleft and craniofacial deformities will be also presented in this session.
